Mr. Jones

In the middle of the night, while Mr. Jones was asleep in his hotel room, the telephone beside his bed rang.

Mr. Jones woke up, picked up the phone, and said “Hello”. Then he put the phone down and went back to sleep.

Can you guess who had telephoned him?

probably,Mr.Jones is very calm person and when he didn't hear any words in response (в ответ) he just put the phone down and went back to sleep.

I would say on the contrary, he isn't calm at all

May be Mr.Jones asked reception man to call him in the middle of the night in order to go working and than at night when he understood that he doesn`t want to go working he put the phone down and went back to sleep.
