A tactful person is one who can say the agreeable thing, in the right way, at the right time.

Tactfulness is an art which borders on another art – that of lying – but it is necessary in this world. If we didn’t have tactful people we would be quarreling with each other all the time. Perhaps if Abel had been tactful, he wouldn’t have suffered death from his brother. Tactfulness was not probably so much practiced than as it is now. People who are tactful may sometimes be untruthful. But are all tactful people liars?
